Alba Gallego, Staff Accountant, 4 Year HealthSTAR Team Member
Meet Alba Gallego, Staff Accountant at HealthSTAR. In her role, Alba is responsible for managing cash flow for the entire company, making sure it gets sent to the bank and updating our Executive team on all banking information. She handles reconciliations for all accounts, journal entries and accruals for Corporate. In addition, Alba assists with month end and yearend financial close processes. She has been with the company for four years.
Originally from Ecuador, this year marks 20 years that she has lived in the United States.
Alba’s life in Ecuador was quite different than here in the U.S. as she grew up in a rural area and was raised on a farm. As a child, her after school activities included feeding the animals and handling household chores which she enjoyed.
With her parents relocating to the U.S. first, Alba’s grandparents helped raise her at home in Ecuador. They continue to be a very important part of her life.
Something that Alba is most proud of is that she was the first person in her family to go to school and graduate.
She recently took part in HealthSTAR’s Education Assistance Program and graduated with her MBA from Mercy College.
In her personal time, Alba is busy raising her 9 year old daughter and being involved in her after school activities. A passion for long distance running developed when Alba participated in a race for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in honor of a sick 6 year old boy. For that event, Alba raised over $2,000 for the cause. Since then, she has completed several half marathons and a future personal goal is to some day run a full marathon.
A belief Alba tries to live by is to “always do the right thing even when no one is watching”. Integrity is very important to her.
When asked about her tenure at HealthSTAR, Alba states being exposed to a higher volume of transactions and functions have enabled her to grow professionally. Also, she said “the education assistance program was the best thing as it helped her achieve her Masters”. In addition, “the benefits and financial advising offered are all great things that help employees grow”. She likes that each day at work is busy. Alba is extremely grateful for the support of her supervisor. She appreciates that having a personal life outside the office is recognized and that flexibility is granted as needed. For all these reasons, and especially working with her colleagues, Alba values her time at HealthSTAR.
Everyone at HealthSTAR would like to congratulate Alba on receiving her Masters and all her accomplishments while at HealthSTAR! Thank you for sharing your story in the Spotlight with all of us!
Thank you to HealthSTAR’s HR Team, Lorraine, Lindsey, & Marissa for writing this spotlight article!
